How You’ll Make an Impact

The Sr. Compensation Analyst is responsible for the administration of corporate compensation programs (executive, salaried, hourly), including salary ranges, base salary changes, payroll coordination, annual cash, sales, and long-term equity (stock) incentive programs. Establishes strong working relationships with business/corporate management, Human Resource Business Partners, Finance (Accounting and FP&A) and Legal Departments, and external service providers to efficiently implement and administer Valvoline compensation programs. Will be a key contributor to the broader corporate compensation team and have significant interaction with Valvoline executive management, external consultants and Chair of the Compensation Committee. In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Compensation Administration - Assisting with the administration of base salaries, short-term cash, and long-term equity incentive programs. Providing guidance to managers and HRBPs on the application and interpretation of compensation policies and procedures for new hire offers, promotions, and external market reviews. Communicating and interacting regularly with managers, employees, and other HR Dept. employees. Responding to questions for clarification, problem resolution, and building an understanding of Valvoline compensation programs. Providing technical and analytical expertise in support of annual compensation events including top performer, general market and merit increases, talent management reviews, and pay equity review processes.
  • Incentive Plan Administration - Partnering with Business Units, Finance/Accounting Department, and HR Operations to ensure Valvoline Incentive Plan (VIP) accruals are accurate, updated quarterly/monthly, and reconciled in accordance with established procedures. Assisting with plan set-up, communication, and questions.
  • Compensation Survey Administration - Leading/assisting the survey submission and analysis processes. Responsible for annual short-term cash and long-term equity data inputs for executive and middle management surveys. Preparing annual incentive and LTIP benchmarking reports. Assisting in the annual analysis and modeling of the executive and base compensation programs using appropriate survey and benchmark data.
  • Developing job descriptions and completing job evaluations using job evaluation (KF/Hay Group) and direct market pricing. Maintaining job descriptions and organizational chart software programs.
  • Assisting Chief People Officer and VP, Total Rewards in the development/preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee for Board meetings (Nov, Jan, Apr, Jul, Sept). Preparing decks for internal “dry runs,” and pre-Comp Committee reviews with the Chair of the Compensation Committee and Compensation Consultant to the Board.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be required from time to time.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum three years of compensation department experience within a $1B+ publicly listed/traded company
  • Experience working with compensation consultants and service providers
  • Job evaluation experience
  • Working knowledge and understanding of laws, regulations and best practices related to executive compensation and stock plan administration; SEC, SOX internal controls, FAS, GAAP, IRS, FLSA, pay equity
  • Advanced PC skills utilizing Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with a high level of proficiency and accuracy
  • Advanced HRIS proficiency, e.g., ADP, UKG, SAP Success Factors, or Workday
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Statistical acumen with large data set management experience to derive actionable and financial recommendations
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate complex and technical information to a variety of levels within the company
  • Works effectively under pressure in an often fast-paced environment driven by hard deadlines with a sense of urgency and accountability
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation as required
