How You’ll Make an Impact

The Sr Manager, Benefits will be responsible for ensuring our benefit and wellness programs support the company's strategic objectives, are competitive in the markets in which we do business, and comply with all local and federal regulations. Leads the North America benefits team through design, implementation, communication, and administration of Valvoline’s health, welfare and retirement programs and provides COE support for global benefits. Maintains a strong understanding of the business and structure to create solutions that are aligned with long-term business goals, total reward philosophies, and frameworks. Designs and delivers health and welfare programs that comprehensively meet the needs of a multi-demographic, multi-generational and multi-cultural workforce, monitoring program effectiveness and costs. In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Developing/designing, implementing, communicating, and administering U.S. multi-state/ Canadian multi-province benefits plans, programs and strategies to meet the needs of a diverse workforce and maintain competitiveness and compliance.
  • Developing and making recommendations on benefit-related budgets, policies, and procedures.  Works with external actuarial and corporate finance to control costs and manage risk at the appropriate level.  Partners with Compensation to ensure market competitiveness of VGP’s global total remuneration programs.
  • Ensuring Valvoline's benefit and health and wellness programs comply with local legal and government regulatory requirements, and reporting is completed per country specifications. Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our benefits and leave administration including, but not limited to, ERISA, IRS, DOL, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, ACA and ADA. 
  • Establishing partnerships with external vendors and other stakeholders; directs, coordinates, manages, and executes projects. Develops outstanding internal relationships within HR (including Global HRBPS) , Legal, Finance, Payroll and other teams to deliver a top-notch consistent employee experience across the organization for all business units . Collaborates with team members to effectively communicate benefit programs to the organization.
  • Leading and developing a Benefits' team with subject matter experience and set key performance goals for team members for individual development and contribution to the organization's success, aligning within the HR organization. Enhances communication between various team members and clients to promote a positive work environment.
  • Coordinating regular meetings with benefit and retirement committees including the development and presentation of materials.
  • Leading due diligence and activities related to benefit levels and contractual obligations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required
  • Minimum of five years direct benefits oversight/leadership required at the U.S. corporate level for $1B+ multi-site, employers with 1,000+ employees
  • Expert-level understanding of global benefit plan options and services
  • Customer oriented - demonstrates sense of urgency and strong client focus
  • Ability to lead a team and a variety of projects from start to finish (e.g., needs identification and assessment, modeling and analysis, solution design, and implementation)
  • Process improvement-oriented and confident in making recommendations and decisions
  • Flexible and proactive problem solver adept at achieving results in a team-oriented and collaborative environment, but also able to function effectively working independently
  • Demonstrated success in a dynamic, frequently changing, and fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to partner successfully with all levels in the organization
  • Comprehensive ability to communicate, influence, and persuade
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Creating and driving an inclusive culture

  • Proven experience with HRIS and Payroll Systems, preferably SAP / SuccessFactors
  • Hybrid office and work from home position with a preference for 3 days+ per week in the office
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. 

What Will Set You Apart

  • MBA or advanced degree
  • CEBS/IFEBP or CBP certification
  • HR certifications such as CHRL/CPHR, PHR/SPHR/GPHR or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP desired
