How You’ll Make an Impact

The Entry Level Accountant provides entry level support for network growth and other strategic initiatives of the Retail Services business as part of a strong accounting team. Partners closely with the business to provide accounting support for new acquisition and ground-up stores in the U.S. and Canada. Areas of responsibility are generally process-driven and require heavy oversight of a more experienced team member. In the role, you would be responsible for:

 

Fixed asset accounting responsibilities:

  • Perform fixed assets related tasks such as asset creations, additions, disposals, sales, transfers, and closures within SAP’s Fixed Asset Module
  • Execute monthly depreciation job and record monthly journal entries
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations within Blackline
  • Assist with preparing fixed assets reporting on a monthly / quarterly / annual basis
  • Update and maintain the SOPs/work instructions in case of any change or modification in procedures

Lease accounting responsibilities:

  • Review monthly lease activity and create new accounting schedules within the CoStar real estate system
  • Assist with recording monthly lease accounting journal entries (e.g., rent expense, rental income, lease assets / liabilities)
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc lease reporting
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving lease questions and issues
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations using the Blackline system

Expected Risk Portfolio of Responsibility (routine versus judgmental):

  • Demonstrate ability to record, track and evaluate simple account balances and activity in straightforward areas within the Balance Sheet (e.g., fixed assets)
  • Ability to understand and follow company checklists regarding straight forward activities and policies (e.g., routine journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations)

Experience applying relevant regulatory frameworks:

  • Responsibility for straightforward, routine, and non-judgmental balance sheet accounts (e.g., depreciable long-lived assets) within a limited number of operational legal entities, including the preparation of reconciliations with sufficient and appropriate support
  • Ability to execute internal controls through the completion of established processes; including procedures performed in support of key controls over financial reporting

Individual is responsible for relationship development (internal, external, leadership, etc.):

  • Develop effective working relationships with manager and immediate team members supported
  • Draw on the technical knowledge of more experienced team members to support in providing direction, guidance and resolving issues
  • Support gathering of information for review in response to auditor and regulatory reporting needs, as requested

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in accounting or equivalent
  • Up to one year of relevant experience
  • Basic understanding of US GAAP, internal controls, and applicable local regulatory framework fundamentals in areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrated attention to detailed processes and ability to accurately follow steps
  • Demonstrated ability to gather / validate data for relevance and complete straightforward analyses and calculations accurately
  • Ability to effectively manage time to ensure deadlines are met
  • Ability to communicate confidently in a clear, concise, and articulate manner – verbally and in written materials produced
  • Willingness to seek to understand individual work and how it supports regulatory requirements within the broader processes and organization and challenge situations that are unclear or appear unusual
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
